It was truly heartwarming to hear testimonies from the sides of the industry and of donors with regard to the quality training imparted by Anihan and to its graduates’ hard work.

Atty. Aniano Bagabaldo, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc., has been sponsoring scholars in Anihan for more than ten years now. He was a guest speaker at The Palms’ Gala Night and in his speech he expressed his satisfaction over the benefits of helping Anihan:

…I recall it started sometime in 1997 when my close comadre, the late Mrs. Mameng Manabat, a staunch supporter of Anihan, personally called me and requested if I could donate some funds to the school. I did not have any idea what Anihan Technical School was all about. We gave our donation because I could not say no to my comadre. I received a thank you letter from the school and a letter of gratitude from the student we sponsored.

…It is inspiring to learn that graduates of Anihan are in demand and have a high employability in establishments like The Palms Country Club, Tagaytay Highlands, Red Ribbon, Sugar House, Hotel Vivere and many others… Naniniwala ako na hindi ninyo kukunin sila kung wala silang sapat na kakayahan or skills (I believe that you would not hire them if they did not have sufficient skills)…

Because of the very good track record of Anihan in educating young women and providing them with skills, good work attitude and moral values, plus Anihan’s involvement in community activities, my family continues to support Anihan, and I also encourage other prospective donors.

Afterwards, Atty. Gonzales of the Filinvest Corporate City Foundation, explained why they chose Anihan as beneficiary even when The Palms already supports the school by hiring among its graduates:

This year, as we celebrate our 8th year anniversary, we launched a new charity drive called Lucky 8: Help & Educate. This is a scholarship program focused on helping the underprivileged but deserving women complete a degree at the Anihan Technical School.

…We chose to send our scholars to Anihan Technical School because it provides the kind of education that does not only focus on the skills and intellgience of its students but more importantly on their morals and spirituality. It is a holistic approach that helps guarantee a brighter future for the individual and her family.

…I am very happy to announce that Filinvest Corporate City Foundation will match the funds raised by The Palms scholarship program.

The industry, donors, patrons, and the many other people who support and help Anihan in continuing to achieve its vision of being a leading technical-vocational school can expect a more intense commitment from the school’s staff and students!

“Lucky 8: Help & Educate” is The Palms’ second time to organize a charity drive and this year, Anihan Technical School is the lucky one as it has been chosen to be The Palms’ beneficiary.

Aside from their many other activities, the charity drive includes the “Chef’s Special”: this consists of 8 special dishes prepared by 8 Anihan alumnae. The dishes are available at The Palms’ Cafe Asiana, The Continental, and Nishijin.

Sherry Mae always depicts an “I care attitude” that earned commendations from the customers. She strives for excellence in work and takes the initiative of guiding her co-worker when needed. When she was just a kitchen helper, she successfully managed the operation of The Continental, performing tasks way above her scope of work. This attitude impressed her superiors. Above all, she consistently showed excellent performance by rendering a high quality of service not just on special occasions but on a daily basis.

This year’s Employees of the Year have one thing in common: their work attitude is considered far better than others. Moreover, they once again proved the fact that to get promoted, you should grow bigger than your role.

I am Cheryl and I live in Canlubang, Calamba City. After I graduated from Anihan, I was hired by Tagaytay Highlands International Golf Club, Inc. which is where I also did my on-the-job-training (OJT) for four months.
After a year and a half there, my executive chef transferred me to Highlands Steakhouse by Tagaytay Highlands (SM Mall of Asia). He said, Alam kong kaya mo kahit nag-iisang babae ka (I know you’ll be able to handle it even if you’ll be the only girl there). My executive chef and sous chef were very supportive. They let me borrow their books, they shared all their knowledge and trusted me in everything I did, especially in making the market list and the production summary.

Though my duties are very hard, nagagawa ko pa rin ito ng tama at sa oras (I am able to do them well and on time). Anihan taught me to “love what you’re doing and offer it up to God!”, to always have a passion for great things. Nakatanim na nga yata sa isip ko yung (I think these words are already planted in my brain), “OK, girls, this is it! Tutoong mundo na ito (This is the real world)!”. Every time I remember those words, I remember Anihan. The school always reminds me of my friends, teachers, tutors, and… virtues like sanctification of work, good attitude towards work, harmony with co-workers, and giving importance to my family.

Others say that after graduation Anihan students change. Well, I am proud to say that I did really change, a lot! (Now) before anything else, family always comes first! To work hard for them is my goal. Sa kanila ako kumukuha ng lakas ng loob. Tuwing nakikita ko silang masaya, nahihikayat akong mag-doble sipag pa. (I get my strength from my family. Every time I see them happy I am encouraged to even double my efforts.)

Anihan taught me a lot of great things and I’m very thankful because, at last, ako na ito (this is me)! A person who loves cooking, eating, and at the same time, teaching people (co-workers and on-the-job-trainees) to do the things they love… I am proud to say, ako na ito, a person with passion for work and sense of direction.
To show my debt of gratitude, I am applying as a part-time instructor in commercial cooking at my alma mater… I want to teach (other) young women all the things I’ve learned in the industry where I am right now.
